Ukraine loses the little support that Indians had

On Sunday, the official Twitter account of Defence of Ukraine posted a picture that showed the Indian goddess Kali in a pose similar to the famous upskirt moment of Hollywood actress Marilyn Monroe. The picture was apparently intended as a “work of art” but was met with outrage from Indian netizens who found it offensive and “Hinduphobic.”

The depiction of Kali, with its blue skin, tongue sticking out pose, and a wreath of skulls around the neck, bore a striking resemblance to the revered Hindu deity. Many Indian Twitter users were upset that Ukraine had chosen to mock their culture and religious beliefs through this caricature-like depiction.

Within minutes of the tweet being posted, it received a massive backlash from Indian users, forcing the Ministry of Defence to delete the post. The Indian Twitter users expressed their disappointment and called for an apology from Ukraine for its insensitive and ignorant depiction of Maa Kali.

Netizen’s Reaction on Ukraine

One Twitter user, Mohan Sinha, commented that this incident was why Ukraine was not getting any support from India and was getting “its ass kicked.” Another user, Sudhanshu Singh, urged Ukraine to take down the offensive content and issue an apology, stating that respect for all religions and beliefs was paramount.

The incident highlights the importance of cultural sensitivity and understanding, particularly when dealing with matters of religion and belief. It also serves as a reminder of the power and influence of social media, which has the potential to bring people from different parts of the world together but also has the power to divide and offend.

“Shame on you for making such cartoons and insulting our faith! Utterly disgusting attempt,” tweeted another user.

Many angry Twitter users in India started tagging the social platform’s CEO Elon Musk and India’s foreign minister S Jaishankar urging them to take strict action.
