Jagannath Rath Yatra 2024: In an unprecedented turn of events, Lord Jagannath will reside in a tent for the first time in 92 years during the Rath Yatra in Kanker. This comes after the Gundicha temple in Janakpur ward, where Lord Jagannath traditionally resides, was deemed unfit for habitation due to its dilapidated condition.
Historical Significance of Kanker Temple
The Jagannath temple in Kanker was established in 1932 by the Kanker King. Since then, the annual Rath Yatra, starting from Shri Jagannath Swami Temple in Rajapara, has been a significant event. This year, preparations are in full swing, with the procession scheduled to begin at 3 PM following the ritual worship by members of the royal family.
Similarities with Lord Ram’s Stay in Ayodhya
Drawing a parallel with Ayodhya, where Lord Ram spent 500 years in a tent before moving into his grand temple, the situation in Kanker is reminiscent. Despite the long wait, Lord Ram finally got his temple, but in Kanker, Lord Jagannath is still awaiting the restoration of his Gundicha temple.
Temple Committee’s Perspective
According to Shravan Chauhan, the president of the temple committee, the Gundicha temple has been in a state of disrepair for years. Despite repeated requests to the administration for restoration, no action has been taken, forcing the deity to reside in a tent.
Three Years in the Store Room
Since the pandemic in 2020, Lord Jagannath has been residing in the temple’s storeroom. The tradition continued despite the pandemic, but the temple’s condition did not improve, leading to this year’s decision to use a tent.
Jagannath Rath Yatra 2024: Unprecedented Event in 92 Years
This year marks the first time in 92 years that Lord Jagannath will spend 10 days in a tent. The Gundicha temple’s dilapidated state prompted the residents of Janakpur ward to set up a temporary tent for the deity’s stay. The community is committed to serving the Lord during his 10-day stay in their ward.
PM Modi’s Greetings
PM Says, “Greetings on the start of the sacred Rath Yatra. We bow to Mahaprabhu Jagannath and pray that His blessings constantly remain upon us.”
Jagannath Rath Yatra 2024: Conclusion
The Rath Yatra of 2024 in Kanker is set to be a historic event with Lord Jagannath residing in a tent for the first time. Despite the challenges, the spirit and devotion of the community remain unwavering, ensuring the continuation of this cherished tradition.
