TuTr Hyperloop: In a march forward to finally realize the hyperloop dream, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is making significant progress through its incubated startup, TuTr Hyperloop. This initiative has the potential to revolutionize transportation by developing a high-speed, sustainable mobility solution, promising to transform the way goods and people move across distances.

Collaborations and Partnerships

TuTr Hyperloop has formed strategic partnerships with leading industry players. For example, it is currently collaborating with Tata Steel to scale the development and deployment of hyperloop technology, addressing design and material-related challenges. This collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed last December, which built upon research into critical areas such as material selection and system design.

Technology Development

The primary objective of TuTr Hyperloop is to create an efficient and cost-effective hyperloop system that provides fast and secure transportation. The startup is headquartered at the National Centre for Combustion Research and Development (NCCRD) at IIT Madras, leveraging the institute’s deep-tech ecosystem to drive the development of its hyperloop technology.

TuTr Hyperloop is currently developing India’s first hyperloop test facility at IIT Madras’ Discovery Campus. The facility will feature a 400-meter-long vacuum tube, through which autonomous levitating pods will be tested at speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour. Industry partners like ArcelorMittal have already contributed to the project by supplying steel and engineering expertise for the construction of the test track.

Student Innovation

One notable example is the Avishkar Hyperloop project, which recently developed a prototype that covered 350 kilometers in just 30 minutes.
